If you attach this sensor cable to the pins on a 3<sup>rd<\/sup> party drive such as Western Digital, Seagate, etc\u2026 it will not regulate the fans and they will run at full speed all the time. There are two kinds of temperature sensors that Apple uses to regulate fan speed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One is a sensor that connects to the pins on the hard drive.<\/li>\n<li>The other is a sensor that attaches to the outside of the hard drive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerfixx.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Temperature-Sensor-Cable-Installed-Outside-Hard-Drive-Compressed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-311\" src=\"http:\/\/www.computerfixx.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Temperature-Sensor-Cable-Installed-Outside-Hard-Drive-Compressed.jpg\" alt=\"Temperature Sensor Cable Installed Outside Hard Drive Compressed\" width=\"300\" height=\"423\" \/><\/a>If your Apple\u00a0already has\u00a0the type of\u00a0sensor that attaches to the outside of the drive, you won\u2019t have to buy anything extra. Just attach the sensor to the new drive.\u00a0 If your computer is using the plug-in sensor shown in the photo above, then you can buy a sensor cable from the website listed below.
